Relaxation and Yoga


I used yoga with children in my nursery for many years, without fully researching the benefits. I started regular sessions and soon noticed a positive difference.

My precedent had always been if it works, do more of it.

Why Yoga?

Yoga and mindfulness help to improve both physical and mental health.

Without doubt yoga improves balance, strength, endurance, and aerobic capacity. Yoga and mindfulness have psychological benefits too.

Yoga can improve focus, memory, self- esteem, academic performance, reducing anxiety and stress.

It is great fun for adults and children.

What are the benefits?

  • FREE, fun, and accessible.
  • Develops attention span and self-control.
  • Connects the understanding between body and mind.
  • Physical fitness, balance, flexibility, and strength are increased.
  • Regulates emotions and boosts self-esteem.
  • Improves immunity responses to infectious diseases in the short and long term.
  • Following regular yoga practice participants were shown to eat more servings of fruit and vegetables. They ate fewer sugary snacks.
  • Reduces stress and anxiety and improves mental well-being. Memory is clearer as stress levels are reduced.
  • Has a positive impact on sleep patterns.
  • Encourages empathy and awareness of others.
  • Promotes a greater sense of self-belief and confidence.
  • Helps to develop both fine motor and gross motor skills.
  • Poses and breathing introduce children to mindfulness practises.
